About the event
The Vigo County Health Department has launched an educational initiative on safe sleep for infants, introducing the first Safe Sleep Trailer for Hoosier caretakers. This immersive experience aims to reduce sudden unexpected infant deaths (SUID), often caused by sleep-related suffocation, which are largely preventable with safe sleep practices. SUID includes unexplained deaths such as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). From 2020 to 2024, Indiana reported over 2,000 infant deaths, with 554 linked to unsafe sleep/SIDS. The Safe Sleep Trailer, funded by Health First Indiana and partners like Safe Sleep Simulation, uses medical simulation and interactive scenarios to promote safe sleep adherence and decrease infant mortality. The public is invited to the trailer's ribbon-cutting event.
